Kościół św. Katarzyny (St. Catherine's Church)

Phoenix from the flames
On a sweltering summer's day in May 2006, just a few months after my arrival in Gdańsk, I (along with thousands of others) watched in stunned silence as Św. Katarzyny went up in flames. It was a veritable inferno and most of the church, the oldest in the city, was left in ashes. Thankfully, however, much of the interior artwork & decoration had been removed in time and a mammoth rebuilding project has since seen the church restored to it's former glory.
