Just a mile away from the entrance to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is the newly refurbished Kilauea Lodge.
I was expecting rustic charm but brushed shoulders with a bed & breakfast style hospitality: from the mugs of coffee to the crackling electric fireplace. It also has elegant Asian-style decor, and an excellent hot towel warmer which proves quite a treat after a nice shower.
The lodge offers a complimentary scrumptious breakfast with options from Macademia Nut French toast to steel cut oats, and there's a hot tub and common room with board games that guests can access.
It's an ideal place to hang one's hat for the night before venturing out to the national park.
