Dogsledding, Kenai National Forest
In researching an article I wrote about the Iditarod, my son and I went dogsledding in February with Sam Deltour, a musher for Team Seavey who was the first rookie to complete the thousand-mile race with his entire sixteen-dog team intact. Later, the Seaveys invited my son and me to photograph the official start of the Iditarod in Willow, Alaska where we found ourselves among only a handful of photographers allowed in the staging area and on the starting line. In winter, the Seaveys offer dogsledding experiences through the Resurrection River Valley near Exit Glacier.
This photo of me with one of the Seavey dog teams was made by my son in the Kenai National Forest with the volcanic cone of Mount Redoubt in the background across Cook Inlet.
