Kawagoe Matsuri Kaikan

Kawagoe is a small city in Saitama Prefecture located roughly half an hour from Ikebukuro by express train on the Tobu Tojo line. It is known for its well-preserved kura (storehouses) dating back to the Edo period. The Kawagoe Matsuri Kaikan (Festival Hall) is home to several of the giant floats that are paraded around the city during the third weekend of October each year. The hall also hosts performances, like that pictured here, of shakuhachi and taiko players as well as kabuki and noh numbers.
