Magical Wisteria Tunnels in northern Kyushu
Japan is a country that adores its floral displays but in recent years, more and more attention has been paid in particular to the delicate wisteria. While the plant has been in Japan for over a millenium (even mentioned in ancient texts), the relatively new, private garden of Kawachi Fujien in the countryside outside Kitakyushu has been drawing record numbers of visitors to its multi-colored floral tunnels. The best time to see the wisteria in bloom is usually the end of April to the beginning of May, which unfortunately also happens to coincide with Golden Week, Japan's busiest domestic travel holiday of the year.
