Vestiges of The Silk Road
As the green oasis of Kashgar in China's Central Asia faded away, I wound my way through the High Pamir Mountains along the Karakorum Highway. The spectacularly desolate landscape of snow-capped peaks and riverbeds was occasionally punctuated with yurts inhabited by Tadjik nomads and their camels. I stopped to take this photo and chat with the owner of the yurt. We exchanged small gifts and I departed with a feeling that I had stepped back in time, and was following in the footsteps of ancient travelers, traders and pilgrims on this crossroads of humanity.
