Cruising in Maui's Honolua Bay
Honolua Bay is a special place. Situated at nearly the most northwestern part of Maui, it is a surfer's paradise or a snorkeler's dream, depending on the swells and seasons. Throughout Maui's winter months, this wave produces some of the most beautiful barreled waves in Hawaii, with line ups of surfers waiting impatiently for their turn. You can park on the red dirt road along the cliff, hike down and watch them disappear into glassy tubes of water and get rocketed out by the fascinating power of Mother Nature. During the summer months when swells are much lower, the Bay is known for its remarkable snorkeling. Park and walk through a magical Robinson-Crusoe kind of forest to get to the rocky beach area, and then slip on your mask and fins and enjoy the views!
