Traveling alone for two days/two nights in Galway, I wanted to stay somewhere safe, relatively comfortable, and centrally located. A friend recommended Jurys Inn. While I'm not generally a fan of chain hotels when I stay abroad--I love the character of B&Bs--here is the view the staff gave me (and with no special request!): top floor, corner room, overlooking activity by the Spanish Arch, kayakers on the River Corrib entering Ballyknow Quay, and bustling activity on the Wolfe Tone Bridge. I was minutes away from phenomenal restaurants (try Ard Bia and Vina Mara), hopping pubs (The Front Door was a favorite), and an invigorating walk on the Salthill prom (better take your camera). A day tour I took to The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher left from the hotel, which was convenient. Yes, the din of the craic would float up into my open windows late into the night, but isn't that part of the excitement of Galway?
