Apples, wine stomping and crafts in Julian, California
Julian is a small town about 45 min. east of the city of San Diego and was once a gold rush town. When the gold petered out, the town saved itself by planting apple orchards and keeping many of the historic buildings in the downtown area. Julian is a cute little place for a day or weekend getaway. There are apple festivals during the apple harvest- where the town showcases art, cider and delicious apple pie! During the grape harvest, there is a festival where you can sign up to stomp grapes in a huge communal tub. There's something for everyone- at least a dozen or more of cute little shops in the downtown area. Several boutique wine tasting rooms, horseback riding, plenty of hiking and nearby is the California wolf center where you can take tours to view these beautiful animals living in the wild - http://www.californiawolfcenter.org/. My husband and I come here several times a year for a day trip getaway, especially during the festivals. This photo was taken on the main street where you can watch all kinds of apple pies being made at MOM's
