The island of Saba is a tiny mass of land in the Caribbean Sea, a mere 12 minute flight from St. Maarten. With a population of under 2000 within a five square mile island, to say that the island is quiet would be an understatement. If you're looking for peace, quiet and a chance to recharge or plan an adventure, this is the spot.
Renting a car isn't recommended due to the tight roads and expert driving conditions on the island (roads are extremely narrow). To get a feel of the island, we hired a cab driver to drive us around and give us a bit of local insight into the small towns that make up this little island. For $50, we were led by local sage Saban, George, as he gave us the rundown of the island's makeup, economy, history and must-sees. For anyone heading to Saba interested in seeing more than the main town of Windwardside, this is a great way to gain your bearings and listen to island stories from a local. Highly recommended!
