Jordan Winery Estate Tasting Creates Perfect Circle
I absolutely had no idea about how great a carefully orchestrated wine tasting could be. Jordan's popular Estate Tour and Tasting begins in the Bacchus Courtyard with some refreshments set out while guests gather. One delightful addition the day we were there was Mrs. Jordan who was in town for her son's birthday. She greeted each guest to " her winery" and was friendly and gracious.
We took off in a comfortable Mercedes coach to visit the Estate's garden and mini-farm. After clucking after chickens and petting the cows most took off wandering the rows of fruit, flowers and vegetables, to nibble on ripe berries, pausing to crush fresh herbs between their fingers to release the bright flavors.
We drove through the grapes to a massive stone table next to a pond, set with various Jordan Chardonnays and little Shaker-type boxes full of bites. Our guide expertly took us through the pairings as we enjoyed the vintages with complementary and contrasting sweets and savories.
Our last stop was a climb in the bus to top of a hill. Certainly impressive, the modern glass sided-structure at the top of a hill provides 360 degree views of the valley. Finally we were coaxed from the views to seats in front of some rich, beautiful Jordan reds and a wooden box of artful food; perfect little jewels for each pairing with the bold Cabernet Sauvignon reds. And here is where the garden plays into the mix. The vegetables, herbs, fruits, ingredients and flower garnishes all come from the Estate garden, so the circle is completed. I say swirl and sip to that!
The Jordan Vineyard and Winery Estate Tour is highly recommend for the quality of the wines and the entire experience.
