Characteristic of a Leading Hotels of the World property, everything about the dining experience at The Gainsborough Bath Spa's restaurant, Johann Lafer, is exceptional.
An award-winning Michelin starred chef and TV personality in Germany, Austrian chef Johann Lafer chose The Gainsborough to make his international debut with his inventive yet classical restaurant.
The ambiance is clean and fresh, making way for the food to take center stage. Sourcing the most local and fresh ingredients possible, Johann's philosophy is "dining without borders," fuzing the best of English food with Asian flavors to create culinary delights that are truly one of a kind.
I started with the Salmon Two Ways: salmon prepared teriyaki and tartare style with rice wine marinated cucumber and melba toast, followed by the Slow-Cooked Honey-Soy Pork Belly. The Braised Beef Cheek atop a fluffy bed of lemongrass polenta, summer vegetables and a rich red wine sauce surprised me next, with its harmony of flavors and its melt-in-your-mouth tenderness.
The meal at Johann Lafer concluded with the stunning Summer Tarte, a refreshing and elegant dessert with meringue, bulging raspberries, and frozen lime yoghurt.
