"Big Sky country"may well be the moniker of Montana, but the phrase describes northern Arizona just as well. Here, looking north from the mountainside mining town of Jerome, my wife and I could see across to the red rock country near Sedona, and beyond, the San Francisco peaks, the volcanic range between Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. The late summer monsoon fills the sky, building all afternoon before finally raining down on the exposed geology below.
