Celebrate Culture in Kakadu National Park
Every September, Kakadu's Jabiru Lakeside Park presents Mahbilil: a day of live music, traditional dance, circus, bush tucker, cooking competitions, sports, workshops, and market vendors. Much of the entertainment focuses on Aboriginal artists and traditions from around the region and country, but expect folk and blues, too, as well as reggae later in the evening. Highlights include the local Jabiru Bininj Gunborrk dancers and traditional crafts such as spear-making, grass-weaving and storytelling. Authentic bush foods are cooked over coals, and underground in traditional smokers.
