Holbox island is an unpretentious paradise. The village has dirt streets; there are no cars, only few restaurants and no ATMs. People are friendly and there is this whole environment of little town where everyone knows and helps each other. One night we went into a bar (La Isla del Colibri) that had a small crowd singing and playing the guitar. They were just local people, playing music for their own enjoyment and that of everyone who wanted to join in. That night there was a Colombian singer, apparently on vacation in Holbox, who gracefully joined the crowd and the singing. It was simply a perfect night of listening to boleros and guitars.
Don’t expect a trip filled with activities, because there is no much to do here. We were out of season to see the shark whale, which is one of the main attractions, so we just chilled out, watch beautiful sunsets, talked with friendly people and quietly enjoyed this amazing place.
