Iglesia Anglicana San Pablo

A further testimony to the English influence in Valparaíso is the Iglesia Anglicana San Pablo—St. Paul's Anglican Church, built in 1858 by the architect William Lloyd. With Catholicism as the only permitted religion, Protestant porteños felt the need to keep a low profile; the unassuming building has neither steeple nor cross on the outside to make it stand out. Declared a national historic monument in 1979, it has been thoroughly restored and was recently declared the Anglican Cathedral of Chile.
