Two Brothers Motorbike from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City: Part Three Riding the GN
Vung An Cu lake before Da Nang south of Hue.
The Suzuki GN 125 road warrior or lemon. It is one of the few cruiser type bikes you can find in Hanoi for a reasonable price. Previous to my brother coming out to Vietnam for this ride I had purchased one for about 500 dollars worth of problems. Like most motorbikes that price it was used but marketed as "In good working condition". It had about two dozen different problems with it. After six months of varied treatments from Frankensteins monster shop visits to simple screw tighten jobs I would trust take that bike to hell and back and knew it inside out.
We both had come from some varied motorbike experience. My brother was a avid vespa collector in the states and I knew my way around the GN. With the trip on a time line and budget. The GN125 was a logical choice for the price and reduction in spare parts we would have to carry, one type one set needed. We would by the end of the trip using every spare part we had brought except for one extra wire.
We found a GN125 from an expat bike dealer in Hanoi who was a good fellow I trusted and had done some work on my bike in the past. For whatever reason he was very hesitant on selling the bike to us on such short notice. The Black GN had just made the trek from Da Nang and was in rough shape but the price was right.
