Hualin Temple

Hualin (华林) means “flowery forest”, so every city in China tends to have a Hualin Temple, Hualin Road, and so on. What makes this building unique is that it’s the oldest wooden structure in all of South China. Originally a prominent community temple, it’s been decommissioned and serves as a museum. It was opened in 964 AD, making it over ten centuries old! The temple is an example of Tang Dynasty architecture, noted for pagodas with square bases. Despite its age and significance, not a lot of people know about this building, so its a lovely secret spot.
