A rockin' virtuoso on both trombone and trumpet, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue are the latest in the funk-blues explosion coming out of New Orleans. His original songs are funky, with a blues-rock sensibility that is impossible to resist. Troy Andrews, aka Trombone Shorty, hails from one of the royal families of New Orleans musicians. He started playing trombone when he was about four, struggling to hold the instrument (that was taller than he was) in street parades. The members of Orleans Avenue are all terrific musicians from the neighborhood, and several have been playing with Troy since high school days. Their seamless presentation is the fruit of thousands of terrific performances--a lifetime, in fact.
I can't resist the trumpet call. Shorty brings a taste of New Orleans, everywhere he goes!
