I had heard that Glasgow was a bit rough and tumble, but the West End, lined with gorgeous Edwardian and Victorian homes, is definitely the posh part of town. And the Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Gardens, set in a series of three-story townhouses, is the top place to lay your head. My room -- or rather duplex suite -- was palatial, with soaring ceilings, huge bay windows, and a downstairs bathroom as large as my Brooklyn apartment. The room itself, clad in dark wood and rich purples, felt stately but not overly traditional. The best part? A clawfoot tub in front of the fireplace.
