Horn Island

Horn Island has a cape that juts out of the water like a big horn indeed, but the island that lies where the Atlantic and Pacific collide is in fact named for the Dutch town of Hoorn, which gave financial support to early expeditions here. A popular sculpture on the island of an albatross was designed by Chilean artist José Balcells in honor of sailors who died attempting to round Cape Horn, and who, according to a popular legend, come back as albatrosses.
