Historical Museum of Crete
This museum gives a comprehensive overview of Cretan history outside of the Minoan and classical periods, including artifacts from its Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman past, as well as photos of the German attack during World War II (an airborne invasion led by paratroopers). There is also a re-creation of Nikos Kazantzakis’s study, and the only two paintings by El Greco to be displayed here on the island where the famous artist was born.

This museum gives a great overview of Cretan history outside of the Minoan and classical periods, including artefacts from its Byzantine, Venetian and Turkish past, as well as photos of the German attack of World War 2 (an unusual airborne invasion led by paratroopers). There is also a recreation of Nikos Kazantzakis’ study, and the only painting by El Greco to be housed on the island of the famous artist’s birth.
