Early Flights, Great Food, No Problem For Seattle Airport Hotel
In Seattle recently, I had to catch an early flight to make my connection to Trieste. My daughter lives only 20 minutes from the airport, but she had just arrived from Thailand and I simply could not deprive her of her sleep in the early morning hours. Solution? I picked her up from her Thailand flight and she drove me to the Hilton Seattle Airport & Conference Center.
This turned out to be convenient for both of us. I could "sleep in" until 4 AM instead of 3 AM, hop the free shuttle and whiz through TSA lines in time for coffee and breakfast in United's Lounge, with plenty of time to spare.
Well, you say, aren't airport hotels relatively sterile-looking and the food sub-par? Not this one. I was surprised at the quality of the meal I had at Spencer's Restaurant. How does Wild Mushroom and Brie Vol Au Vent with Champagne Butter Sauce on fresh Halibut sound to you? I even took an afternoon swim after checking in. The sparkling pool area was another surprise with flowering trees and lush landscaping. It even has a gift shop fully stocked with Seahawks and Sounders gear.
Smart travelers stay at airport hotels to cut costs. This hotel is steps from the light rail stop, that for a few bucks, glides you right into downtown Seattle in twenty minutes. No need for a rental car. Check this one out.
Note: Curious about this up-tick in quality I checked with a Hilton Hotels & Resorts rep. who told me that the brand released a Blue Paper study earlier this year on “The Rise of the Airport Hotel” in order to understand current airport hotel perceptions and gauge interest in the next-generation concepts. So expect more Hilton brand airport hotels to include innovative design, meeting & events space, and elevated food & beverage offerings soon.
