Barcelona is a city of contrasts. Fanciful buildings by Gaudi exist with beautiful apartments buildings and palaces of the late 1800s in the city core, while further out from the center, modern office towers and condos sprout up the hills and down to the sea.
Barcelona's culinary scene is thriving and this is a great walking city with treasures to discover in each neighborhood. A terrific home base for your explorations of Barcelona is the Hilton Barcelona. You can walk to the beach, grab a quick cab to Sagrada Familia or Park Guell, both Gaudi treasures, or hop the metro or bus to the oldest area of the city for a beautiful seafood meal in Barceloneta, the traditional fisherman's village. The main avenue is called Diagonal which bisects the city, so use that as your directional marker. Hilton Barcelona is the favorite overnight hotel for many airline crews and conferences as the hotel is efficient, clean and a perfect home away from home. Upper floors have fabulous city views. We loved the room service breakfast which was delivered precisely when we wanted it and the beautiful The Vibe bar and cafe off the lobby serves fabulous coffee and some wonderful food. This hotel is a terrific choice if you are an urban type as you will have to walk just a little to Las Ramblas or otherwise travel to the heart of the older city, but there are restaurants in the hotel and surrounding area. Great hotel.
