Visiting orphans might not be on the top of your travel plans, but I believe it is most definitely worth mentioning. Bangladesh is an incredibly poor and dirty country. I had the unique opportunity to travel here to film a series of promotional videos for the Bangla Hope orphanage that is located near the Indian border. Many people believe orphanages to be very sad and depressing places that are a testament to rejection. Bangla Hope has its sad moments, but visiting is far beyond what you might expect. The orphanage itself is a vibrant place, filled with laughing children, nice buildings, and attractive grounds. The kids are beyond description. They would be perfectly content to play with someone all day long. They sing, dance, and play when they aren't doing schoolwork and most of them have learned to speak English. This isn't an adrenaline-laced adventure, but it is an experience that will enrich your soul and leave you wondering why many of us are so unhappy when we have so much.
This specific photo was shot as a group of us were going to take this orphan from his mother who could not afford to keep him. It was a deeply troubling, but exciting experience. This image conveys the experience to me.
