There were 10 on this plate -- and I had to snap the picture after realizing what a gem I found! Here I was eating momo, dumplings from Nepal, in a St. Paul restaurant that has a full-blown American menu (one of those places with "breakfast all day").
The plate of steamed momo sells for under $10. I chose the meat ones (vs. vege) to try. Holy moly; each bite was a juicy burst of flavor -- the result of minced meat (I believe either lamb or pork, or a combo) cooked with cabbage, onions and a host of other ingredients. The thick coconut-curry dipping sauce was a little salty but, oh my, what a great compliment to the plump momos.
The restaurant's Nepalese owner has also slipped into his all-American menu: a fried momo version and 3 rice entrees. Guess where I'm going for lunch next?
