A great bike trails stretches 25 miles north of Des Moines, but the HIGHlight is the High Trestle Bridge that spans the river between Madrid and Woodward on a former railroad trestle.
The sculpture's design honors the historic coal mines in the area, and if you bike the bridge about 10 miles per hour at night, when it's lighted, you'll get the sensation of spiraling down into a mine shaft. Thrilling!
The bridge is great for birding, exercise, picnics and meeting up with friends and family to enjoy nature year round.
About every six miles along the trail, there are places to grab a sandwich or a cold drink.
Don't miss it. Call me, and I'll go riding with you!
