Take a tram northeast from downtown Vienna to the last stop in Stammersdorf and walk through a lovely suburban neighborhood to this authentic heuriger. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual, not unlike a pub, but the only thing on the menu was their own wine.
And yes, those are MUGS of wine. We visited around Thanksgiving, just after the heurigen (or new wine) was released. It's light, slightly spritzy and very easy to drink. In fact, many of the older folks (so, pretty much everyone else in the tavern at 3pm) ordered new wine spritzers.
Thankfully, there is also a deli-type counter where you can order various snacks to help absorb all that white wine while you watch children run around in the enclosed courtyard. A totally unique experience.
