In Maine, you can pay your respects to the grandfather of American poetry, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The famous poet was born in Portland's West End in 1807. Author of classics such as "Paul Revere's Ride," "A Psalm of Life," "The Song of Hiawatha," and "Evangeline," he was commemorated with a statue that celebrates his life and work in 1909.
