In all of the tourist brochures you'll see Glenelg listed as 'the beach to visit' when you're in Adelaide. Forget the brochures and listen to the local - visit Henley Beach instead.
Whilst Glenelg is easy to get to - the cities tram runs from the city to Glenelg; there is a small amusement park plus a few museums in the area, it's often overcrowded, overpriced and the beach... well, quite frankly it's really dirty!
Henley Beach takes a little longer to get to - the bus journey is around 30minutes - but you'll be greeted with a less crowded beach filled with locals, an array of restaurants and cafes, a few boutique stores and white, clean sand!
For a summer tradition, get a yiros from Estia's takeaway window or fish & chips from Zootz 2 Go and sit in the square's amphitheatre.
For a great restaurant, I recommend Estia for delicious Greek food or Thai Orchid for Thai and a view across the beach at sunset. After dinner head to Copenhagen Ice Cream (around the corner from Estia's) to grab an ice cream or hot chocolate, depending on the season!
