Though few Swiss valleys can compare in splendor to the Lauterbrunnen Valley south of Interlaken, the more easterly Haslital comes quite close. This valley, which stretches just beyond the Grosse Scheidegg Pass near Grindelwald, is best reached by a scenic train ride from Interlaken. Most of the train cars on this Swiss Travel System route feature oversized windows and high ceilings to maximize the views as you churn your way along Lake Brienz to Meiringen. From there, you can switch trains to a panoramic train that will churn up the Brünig Pass over town to reach a tiny, charming hamlet, with cafes and an antiques shop, right on the pass.
