Haoke Lai is one of my favorite restaurants in Guangzhou. I love its method of preparing meat: on a burning hot iron platter that comes sizzling to the table. Even though the restaurant offers sirloin and filet mignon, it seems like more of a way to appear international and high-end. I prefer the black pepper steak or wine steak, a thinly sliced cut with lots of tasty sauce. You can even order an egg and spaghetti to accompany your choice. Haoke Lai may be far from a Western steakhouse, but it’s delicious.
