During the dry season, the rice paddies in northeast of Thailand have been harvested and rain is very scarce, so the breathtaking vistas on Nong Han Red Lotus Sea are all the more surprising. Almost invisible from the shores, behind elephant ear reeds, lies a scene of bucolic splendor: an unending sea carpeted with dramatic pink lotus blooms. The cerulean skies are punctuated only by darting birds, and the waters only by the occasional fisherman in a traditional Thai long boat. The absolute silence, clear waters and sheer beauty of the lake will remain with you for a lifetime. Visit from November to March, in the early morning, for the most spectacular views, and remember to take a camera! The nearest city is Udon Thani in northeast Thailand.
