The remnants of the Greece's Turkokratia (period of Ottoman rule) can be found all over Greece, coexisting with modern homes. This town on the Ionian sea came under Ottoman control in 1460 and there are remains everywhere. This particular hammam was most likely used by the local Ottoman magistrate. It retains the typical hammam architecture (domed ceiling with vents, clay pipes for heat, etc.).
Drive or take a bus from Athens, this town as a lot to offer, especially in the summer. The Ottoman remains dot the landscape and guests are free to explore - just take care as some buildings are unsafe. It is the perfect town to catch World Cup matches or get the perfect tan.
