In the middle of a Texas summer, you can float lazily down the spring-fed Guadalupe River and end up at the Gristmill Restaurant, located right on the banks of the river. The Gristmill is a down-home bar, restaurant and beer garden, built up in the trees with a view of the Guadalupe below. Live music makes a frequent appearance here, as does locally-made Blue Bell ice cream—it's on the dessert menu with nearly every dish. A couple of scoops sit a-la-mode atop the Jack Daniels Pecan Pie, a pie cooked up with a trace of Jack Daniels and a generous portion of chocolate chips. After your first slice, you might just decide to pack up your things and move to the Texas Hill Country.
