The Old Granary Burying Ground
Passing through the Egyptian-style granite gateway of the Old Granary Burying Ground one is instantly transported back in time to Colonial Boston, a place where cows roamed the streets and patriots abounded on every corner. This is perhaps one of the most illustrious cemeteries in the country, the final resting place of Paul Revere, John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin's parents (yes, he was born in Boston), the victims of the Boston Massacre and many other important historical figures including Mother Goose. A site on Boston's Freedom Trail, the cemetery, a popular tourist destination, is a poignant reminder of the past. Located along one of the busiest streets in the city the Old Granary Burying Ground retains a sense of calm and is a reminder of the passing voices that once permeated the city's streets.
