Known for constantly reinventing itself, Grace Bay Club, a member of the AFAR Collection, continues refurbishments aimed at keeping it as stylishly current as it was in 1993, when it became the first luxury hotel to open on the then nearly empty sands of Grace Bay. From its original 21 rooms, the chic, upscale property has grown to 82 suites in what amounts to three resorts within one. The Hotel is for adults, which—some guests are pleased to discover, and others not—is defined as anyone 12 and older. The Villas is for families, which may or may not explain the swim-up pool bar. And the Estate is for entourage-encumbered travelers who need three or four bedrooms. All three mini-resorts have their own restaurant, pool, and bar, but all guests have access to the outdoor Infiniti Bar, the spa, and the Anacaona Restaurant, considered the best special-occasion splurge on Provo. The latest round of remodeling, which is meant to visually unify the three hotel concepts, is by designer Thom Filicia (of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fame). Yet as chic as the Grace Bay Club is, it is also very kid-friendly, with children’s menus at all its restaurants, and a Kids Town program that includes even off-site adventures.

Thanks to being one of the first hotels on Grace Bay Beach, which is arguably one of the Atlantic and Caribbean’s prettiest, Grace Bay Club possesses not only one of the prime locations but also the longest (1,100 feet) beachfront in the neighborhood. So there is no need to go elsewhere for beach time, or worry about lounge chairs being crammed together. Of many nearby restaurants, none is harder to get into, or more worth the effort, than Coco Bistro, whose setting beneath the palms and creative menu (think scallops on a bed of coconut hummus) make it so popular that it’s a good idea to make reservations before leaving home. For golfers, the 18-hole course at the Provo Golf Club is ranked as one of the Atlantic/Caribbean islands’ best.
Need to Know
Rooms: 82 suites. From $620 low season, $1,350 high season. Check-in: 3 p.m.; check-out: noon. Dining options:Begin the evening at the open-air Infiniti Bar, which at 90 feet is said to be the longest in the Caribbean. Try the tapas or head the few steps tothe oceanfrontAnacaona, one of Provo’s most acclaimed, and expensive, restaurants. Open only for dinner, Anacaona serves Euro-Caribbean cuisine, with a tilt toward seafood. Grill Rouge is a casual bistro serving a full breakfast (included in the room rate), lunch, and dinner in season. Krave, at the Estate, serves gourmet comfort food, and is usually open just for lunch. Spa and gym details: The 5,000-square-foot Anani Spa offers body treatments, massages, and facials. Guests can opt for one of the six treatment rooms or use the balcony of their suite. The fitness center is open 6 a.m.–11 p.m., and along with the usual equipment has skiing machines, a steam room, and an outdoor pool.
Who’s it for: Couples and families who like the comforts money can bring, but can do without the glitz. Our favorite rooms: All the oceanfront, higher-floor suites have outstanding views of white sand and turquoise water, but for guests with pockets deep enough to empty at the rate of $10,000 a night, one of the two 4-bedroom Estate Penthouses, each with its own terrace, Jacuzzi, and outdoor shower, should do nicely. Local eats: Along with the resort’s usual dining options, a new one, scheduled to run for six months beginning December 2014, is Jars on Grace Bay, an informal pop-up beach eatery serving hyper-local dishes such as Lion Fish Escoviche with pickled bell peppers and cilantro—in a jar.
