Enchanting rolling hills, world-class vineyards, olive groves, innovative cuisine, small quaint towns and endless blue skies. This could be a description for Tuscany the central region of Italy but in this case I am describing the Santa Ynez Valley located on the California Central coast. One of my favorite towns located in this idyllic setting is Los Olivos (The Olives in Spanish), a friendly community with over two dozen wine tasting rooms, olive oil tasting, and unique stores.
My first stop in Los Olivios is usually a visit to Global Gardens for an Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegars tasting. The owner literally wrote the book on "Caliterranean Living" called "Olive Oil and Vinegar for Life". The first in the region to plant a Certified Organic olive grove, she now makes over 50 home-made food items, sourcing 100% of the ingredients from California vendors.
Located at the main intersection in Los Olivos is the Los Olivos General Store. what was once on of the oldest gas stations in California is now an adorable boutique store offering gifts, home decor, jewelry & books.
When visiting Los Olivos take time to visit many of the tasting rooms along Grand Avenue. One that I never miss is the Daniel Gehrs Wine Tasting Room. I enjoy ending my tasting with their delicious port while sitting out on their patio soaking up the sun with the resident cat.
