For years, the one thing that was missing from the town of Ingonish was a coffee shop. You had to drive for over an hour for a decent cup of coffee until someone decided to open The Bean Barn Café in the center of the town. I spend a lot of time in Ingonish but until recently, I had nowhere to go to enjoy a decent coffee so when I heard there was a new café in Ingoginsh, I had to check it out. Well, I did and the coffee was good, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, the service was friendly and the carrot cake was the best I had every tasted. The café serves specialty coffee drinks, cookies and other sweets and meal items, including pizza and sandwiches. Because I am a freelance writer and my work never really stops, I often take my laptop with me when I travel to Ingonish and on rainy days, I now have a place with free WiFi to do my work and enjoy my daily coffee. Bonus: The Café is located near some of the most beautiful beaches on Cape Breton Island and some of the most spectacular scenery is all of Canada. The Cape Breton Highlands National Park surrounds the café and there are many things to do in the area including hiking, swimming and camping.
