After visiting Spectacle Island, I traveled on the next ferry to Georges. Civil War-era Fort Warren is the main feature to explore on this island. If you've ever wondered what kind of place inspires us to tell ghost stories and legends, this is that kind of place.
An eerie fog rolled in as the ferry approached the jetty. I disembarked and began to walk around the inside perimeter of the fort. Rusty doors with peeling paint opened to the inner courtyard. It was if I'd stepped back in time. Thin slivers of light shone in the gaps between stones just wide enough to fit a musket through. It was spooky but so enjoyable to have the freedom to wander around, even in the dark.
