Gelateria Toscana: Well Worth the Climb into Pienza
It was a gorgeous spring day, perfect for an ice cream cone. So, I decided to take a little bike ride to get one! I started my ride in the little town of Sarteano and made my way on windy, cypress lined roads through the countryside to Pienza. You could ride, hike, walk or just sidle up to the gelato case here and you WON'T be disappointed with their artisanal offering; this is one of the only gelateria I've seen in this part of Tuscany that offers gluten-free, sugar free, and dairy free options for all ice cream eaters. Every flavor is spectacular - I dare you to try the cacio e fichi (pecorino and fig!) As you enter the main portal to the city, there will be two gelaterias - one on your left, one on your right, and a park with bicycle racks in between. Make sure you pick the one with the "Gelateria Toscana" sign furthest from the park! Buon appetito! ;)
