I like hostels. Just kidding. I love hostels. And Gastama may be my favorite of them all.
My home for two weeks upon my (pretty disorganized) arrival in Lille, Gastama is the place to be if you’re looking for reasonable price, awesome accommodations, an A+ reception team, and a great bar to boot.
Some hostels can be kind of icky, but Gastama is kept in impeccable shape, has both a culinary and bar scene that people come from all over Lille to experience, and offers a wonderful kitchen/common space where guests can meet fellow travelers.
I can’t speak highly enough about the staff - not only were they incredibly welcoming and helpful, but they also bent over backwards to make sure I got what I needed. I asked to extend my stay through La Braderie weekend (the busiest weekend of the year in Lille). They hardly blinked twice while they crushed the rules of time and space to keep me lodged in the ~very~ full hostel. It was AMAZING.
Bonus: as I was writing this, I got word that Gastama has been voted “Best Hostel in France” by Hostelworld.com!
