Escape to Fremantle for Seafood and a Jail Tour
Perfect for an afternoon getaway from Perth city, Fremantle is a coastal town with historic charm. How to Get There: Trains depart from Perth Station a few times an hour and take 15 minutes. What to Do: Walk around the coastal town of Fremantle and you’ll find it’s teeming with boutiques and restaurants built in industrial spaces (try Bread in Common for light seafood dishes and smoothies). But in the 1850s, it was synonymous with the notorious Fremantle Prison. Plan a tour of the jail to get a better understanding of Australia’s complicated and fascinating roots. This appeared in the August/September 2015 issue.
