What was expected to be the low point of a two day getaway at the foot of Ben Nevis turned out to be one of the more beautiful experiences of my life so far.
The four hour train ride between Glasgow and Fort William takes you between snow-capped mountains, past elongated lochs, herds of deer and picturesque train platforms seemingly in the middle of nowhere.
Laden with snacks, a deck of cards, books and our iPods, my companions and I settled in at Glasgow Queen Street station, expecting to be thouroughly bored for the ride we were about to embark on. Shortly after pulling out of the station, it became clear that our train following a track that led us through incredible scenery. This, paired with the atmostpheric rain and snow that took turns pelting our windows, made for an unforgettable ride that only made us more giddy with excitement at reaching our destination.
