Try Catalan specialties at Barcelona's Famous Mistral Bakery
Check out regional specialties like ensaïmadas, a typical sweet pastry from Mallorca that is often stuffed with cabello de ángel (made from caramelized pumpkin), whipped cream, or chocolate only a short walk from Plaça Catalunya. Throughout October, don't miss this famous bakery's panellets, a traditional marzipan cookie that locals eat on All Hallow's Eve and Day (October 31, and November 1). The most authentic are panellets de pinyons, and because they're covered in pine-nuts (pinyons), they're also the most expensive. The nearest metro stop is Universitat (L1 and L2).
