Germany's largest car-sharing network is a service of Deutsche Bahn, the national rail carrier. For travelers on the Deutsche Bahn network, Flinkster provides an option for rail-and-drive or pickup in more 140 cities around the country.
Car-sharers must register (it's free), and provide a driver's license and ID along with credit card information. Cars can then be located and booked by computer or SmartPhone app (in German language). Note that, in most cases, a Flinkster car must be returned to the pickup station.
Flinkster is optimum for city dwellers and for frequent travelers on the DB rail network. The combination of rail travel and car-sharing can also work well for travelers looking to vary their transport and explore the back roads of this beautiful country.
Vehicles on offer through the program include electric vehicles, as well as larger models. Our Flinkster car awaited us in the entrance to an atmospheric courtyard of an old factory in Berlin's trendy Mitte!
