Flinders Street Station, built in 1909, is one of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks. For a period in the 1920s, it was the world’s busiest passenger station. To this day, it plays a key role in the life of Melbourne. If someone tells you that they’ll “meet you under the clocks,” they are referring to the row of clocks inside the station. It’s just one of the historic buildings that you’ll visit on your first day in Australia on John Clifford’s itinerary to Victoria and South Australia, when a local architect will take you to General Post Office and the city’s shopping arcades.
