Finca Corsicana is one of the largest pineapple plantations in Costa Rica. It is a wonderful educational farm that introduces you to the political, economic, and social aspects that make up the plantation. Not only do they teach about the way pineapples grow...they describe how to pick the "perfect pineapple" and how to cut it.
You see workers on the fields and learn their story. The guide gives you information on their benefits and duties as workers. They describe the risks and dangers of working at a plantation and answer questions.
There is also the opportunity to see how the pineapples are prepared for export. It is really a "behind the scenes" experience! In addition to that you are educated on how organic farms work and how they differ from normal farms. They explain the procedures they use at the farm to protect the plants and avoid the use of pesticides and other chemicals.
Throughout the tour, which lasts approximately 2 hours, you get the opportunity to taste unbelievably delicious pineapple. Since that tour, I cannot help to compare the pineapple I taste to the pineapple I had at that farm.
