Located in the former governor's mansion in the leafy French Quarter, the Foreign Correspondents Club, or FCC, was never actually a foreign correspondents club—although step into the upstairs bar with its Art Deco style and ceiling fans and you can imagine crusty old journos trading secrets over late-night drinks. The restaurant's international menu has something for everyone, and the food, while a little inconsistent, is pretty good. But I love the FCC for a drink more than anything. The upstairs patio tables are ideal for sipping a glass of wine in the sun, while the courtyard is a lovely spot to settle into for sundowners or an evening drink. I prefer it during the quieter monsoon period, as big tour groups can spoil the tranquil atmosphere during high season. There is also a stylish boutique hotel with a lovely pool tucked behind, and some of Siem Reap's best shopping in the boutiques overlooking the courtyard bar. Tip: take some mosquito spray; supermarkets and mini-marts sell pocket/purse-size bottles.
