Eygalieres is an endlessly charming, Provencal town, tucked just outside of the Les Alpilles range. In all of those years living, working and biking through Provence, I found no more perfect place for an espresso stop en route to and from some of the best cycling on Earth.
Cafe de la Place is on the corner of the main pedestrian street through town and it's the best location to people watch and witness the locals daily routines. Inside, the space is modern, colorful and has hints of whimsey. The friendly staff makes a dreamy espresso and is quite proud that visitors and locals alike can never quite seem to leave.
The cafe is also open most evenings and it can be the perfect place to return for a glass of locally produced chilled rose wine, olives and live music.
When the hunger hits you, be sure to wander two blocks on the Grand Rue towards La Maison Sucree for the country's best crepes! But before you leave the cafe, even if you don't have to head to the restroom- be sure to do so anyway- to see the world's most creative men's urinal (that makes the Rolling Stones proud).
